If you have been blogging long enough, I guess at some point or another, you would have seen “Get Paid To Blog” banners at some corner of your friend’s blog or any blog you stumbled upon.

Just curious, the first time you saw it, did it entice you enough to check it out?  After all, you are already blogging out of interest.  Did you think it sounded too good to be true to be able to make money out of what you are already doing?

But for many, getting paid to blog is still a controversial idea.  Not everyone agrees on it.  There are bloggers who feel strongly about this as they insist they will only write because they enjoy it.  If they have to make themselves write reviews or articles that go against their interest or blog theme, they feel that they will be misleading their loyal readers.

But there are also bloggers that welcome this idea.  For example, for those who are already blogging about their life and their family, it is in fact so appropriate for them to share reviews about home appliances, or talk about store discount coupons, while being able to earn some money writing about these.  I think as long as they choose to write selectively and do not confuse their readers with too many paid posts, readers may actually feel that they are adding value to their blog instead of just posting their rants about everyday life.

I guess there is no definite right or wrong about getting paid to blog.  It is after all an individual decision you are comfortable with it.  You might be already active in forums, sharing your ideas and reviews about products and services.  Or you may even be editing Wikipedia pages for free.  Why say no to these similar opportunities that could probably help you pay your hosting fees and other bills, especially if you are a stay at home mom or dad, or retired with no income?

Well, this marketing niche is still flourishing because it does work and there is a demand.  If there is no demand for paid blog reviews at all, and everyone refuses to write for a fee, we will not be seeing blog advertising companies launching one after another.  In fact the bigger players are still going really strong.  Try googling “blog advertising” and you will know who they are.  The newest kid on the block is a company called Paying Post, if you would like to check it out.

Whether getting paid to blog is your thing or not, I guess it is here to stay as long as there is internet and there are blogs.  Especially at this gloomy period, everyone needs any extra income they can get.  So why not tap on your blogs, if you already have them?
